Parliament of Owls
2019. Digital film.
Parliament of Owls is a video installation which takes its name from the collective noun for the species, as they have long been considered to be of a wise disposition. While politics is often deemed to be the defining feature separating humans from the rest of the animal kingdom, this has been scientifically and culturally disproven. On a multitude of levels animals are bound up in these systems from symbolic representations to active participants. Not only are they embroiled in human affairs but among their own species show fail air signs of political prowess. In this case, shouldn’t animals have a say rather than being dictated by governments of the dominant species?
