Natural Forces

2018. Paper, ink.

Natural Forces is a photographic mapping of Istanbul’s diminishing green space. While areas such as parks and gardens are scarce, a variety of species can be found filling the cracks between the pavements and climbing up walls. Plants can be spotted in a multitude of obscure locations, having taken over the built environment and claiming their own space among swathes of urbanisation. In addition to this, local residents have ‘hacked’ everyday objects - from food containers as plant pots, to bubble wrap greenhouses - in order to implement and nurture nature in the face of environmental adversity.
