Indicator Species
2018. Silicone rubber, arduino, sensors, LEDs.
Rodents have been exploited in human’s endeavours for technological progress, yet remain to be one of the most hated creatures. Indicator Species is a household sensor device with the natural capabilities of a mouse: the ability to detect CO2, carbon monoxide and air pollution (from burning matter). On detecting these substances, the robotic mouse’s tail moves, its red eyes flash and a squeaking sound is emmited. The device aims to highlight the dichotomy between repulsion for these creatures and the hugely significant role they have played in scientific and technological advancement.
