Caged Gaze
2019. Steel, mesh, human, birds.
Caged Gaze subverts the function of the most violent architecture for animals. By physically limiting animals, humans have asserted their dominance. A dog on a lead, a fish in a tank, a taxidermy specimen in a display case - but few are as explicitly brutal as the cage. The metal mesh is a material manifestation of our separateness, an unwillingness to share space and be together.
